We are bike racers and bike riders who believe that proper position on your bike is critical regardless of your level or experience. Over the years we have used a combination of many different approaches to bike fitting and have relied on our knowledge of biomechanics and the specific needs of each client to help them find their most efficient position on the their bicycle. We understand that racing is different than touring and both require attention to detail. We have performed bike fits on literally every level of rider, from the Pro Tour to the weekend warrior.
At HSP we are always looking for ways to improve the service we provide to our clients and it’s with this in mind that we are using the Body Geometry Fit (BG Fit) protocol developed by Specialized and The Boulder Center of Sports Medicine as our fit system of choice. The BG fit protocol is a comprehensive, professional and organized approach to bike fitting that adds another level to our already proven approach to pairing a bicycle to a cyclist. David Richter is the only certified Master BG fit technician in Seattle. Experience the difference our professional fitting experience will make for your performance..
The Right Fit, Guaranteed
Every fit at HSP is 100 percent guaranteed. After a few days of riding in your new position we understand that what seemed “right on” in the studio may end up not feeling not quite “right” out on the open road. Just come back in and we will make the necessary adjustments, free of charge, until it is right. It’s as simple as that.
HSP offers three types of evaluation and fitting:
BG Pro Fit – $250
A bike fit is very personal and it’s important that we understand your cycling goals and your unique physical characteristics. Your body is adaptable to some degree but for long term comfort as well as safety, proper adjustment of your body’s contact points on your bike is essential. Every BG fit session begins with a series of flexibility and strength assessments. These tests help us determine which position will be best for you by confirming limiting factors in your movement chain. And with that information we make modifications in your handle bar, cleat/pedal and saddle positions.
If you’re a novice rider, a BG Fit ensures maximum comfort. If you are an experienced rider you will find that a BG Fit increases power, efficiency and comfort.
Allow 2 hours for your BG Fit appointments and please bring your current bike, your riding clothes and shoes.
BG Pro TT Fit – 300.00
TT and Tri bikes (aero bikes), can seem intimidating because of the complicated aero bar set-up. By following a system very similar to the BG road fit we break the process down to individual parts and by doing so create the most efficient aero position that makes sense for you and your event.
Our job during an aero bike fit is to maximize your performance by creating the most aerodynamic advantage without compromising power output over the duration of the event. In the aerodynamic position you make up 80% of the drag, while your bike makes up the remaining 20%. In the power equation you provide 100% of the force propelling both you and your bike forward, se we need to consider factors affecting your power and how those factors may change as the duration of the event changes.
The fastest aero position maximizes efficiency by balancing aerodynamics, power and comfort. Comfort has to outweigh aerodynamics as the event grows longer because it doesn’t matter how great your position is if you can’t stay there. The rules governing bike set up for triathlon androad racing are different. The UCI and USA Cycling have very specific rules governing where certain pieces of equipment can be positioned. We know and understand these rules and make sure to apply them when needed- we will make sure your aero bike passes inspection..
A BG Pro TT Fit will create a synergy between you and your aero bike that will provide confidence, stability and a faster time out on course.
Allow 2 hours for your BG Fit appointments and please bring your current bike, your riding clothes and shoes.
DFU Fit – $350.00
Whether you’re looking for a new custom frame or to get into the ideal position on your current bike, the Guru Dynamic Fit Unit will provide with answers.. The DFU is a computer controlled robotic fitting machine that allows you to be perfectly positioned in space down to the millimeter, independent of your bicycle.
The DFU is integrated with a Computrainer power meter so that a range outputs can be tested for maximum efficiency at different intensities.. Once a balanced and powerful position is attained, the measurements can either be converted to geometry for a new custom bike, or adapted to your current bike.
HSP was one of the first facilities in the country to work with the DFU. After spending time at Guru HQ learning the ins and outs of the DFU fit unit from the designers and engineers who created the machine and design GURU bicycles, we are confident that the DFU process will provide all the information necessary to build a perfect custom bicycle.
Allow 2 hours for your appointment and please bring your current bike, riding clothes and shoes.
Other Fitting Services
Cleat Adjustment – $45
Cleat position on your cycling shoes is a critical component for cycling comfort and performance and it’s one of the first things we consider when we do a bike fit. All adjustments for bike fitting rely on proper cleat adjustment. If the cleats are not adjusted correctly prior to other adjustments then the fit is adversely affected. Cleats are often a cause of injury if faulty placement occurs. If you need to replace your cleats and you are unsure of the placement, don’t guess! Let us make the adjustments for you.
Bicycle Sizing – $75.00
A basic sizing session includes setting seat height, reach and fore aft saddle position on your bicycle. Adjusting these positions properly will allow for efficient pedaling and a comfortable ride.
A sizing session is complimentary with every new bicycle purchase
CycleSole Custom Foot beds – $250.00
Increase comfort, improve efficiency, and maximize power. Who doesn’t want that? HSP was the first shop in Seattle to offer our clients Cyclesoles. And we did so only after both David and myself spend many hours in the saddle wearing our own custom Cyclesoles in our shoes. We have both worn many different types of custom foot beds over the years but we were both convinced that these were simply the best. So Scott Peterson, founder and creator of Cyclesoles came to HSP and showed is how to make the insoles for our clients.
You Get Bikes, Your Insoles Should Too
You wouldn’t mold a footbed for a runner while they were sitting on a bike, so why would you make an insole for a cyclist while they were standing on the ground? You wouldn’t. But many Cyclesole competitors do. Scott Peterson knew there had to be a better way, so he sat down and figured it out. The result? A revolutionary and completely unique on-bike molding platform. The system puts you in the power position during the fit process, ensuring greatly improved power transfer from the leg to the foot and the most biomechanically correct position possible. What makes them so unique?
- 17 grams or less means they are among the lightest in the world
- Power Plus Platform. Enhanced ergonomic arch support creates essential forward distribution of power.
- Super durable. Built to last, Cyclesoles will deliver comfort and power for 2-3 years, depending on the volume of your mileage.
- Convenient. The fit process takes place on your own bike at your favorite shop or fit studio.
- Fast. Unlike many custom products, the entire process from fit to production takes less than two hours. Your insoles are molded and refined while you wait.
